Bride and Groom Cakes
BY JAMES BROOKS
These push pop cakes, with their top hat and bridal rose toppers, would be perfect for wedding favours or sweet table displays.
Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy peasy
You Will Need
Half batch vanilla cupcakes
Half batch chocolate cupcakes
One batch buttercream
White Mexican modelling paste
Pink and black paste colours
Pink candy food dust
Cake push pop holders
Disposable piping bag
1. Assemble the push pops. Colour buttercream pink, spoon into the piping bag and snip off the end. For the bride push pops, cut two circles from vanilla cupcakes using a push pop tube and top each with a simple swirl of pink buttercream. Repeat for the groom push pops using the chocolate cupcakes.
2. To make the top hat: add black paste colour to white modelling paste to make silver-grey. Roll out a little and use a push pop tube to cut a circle for the hat base.
3. Roll out a paste sausage smaller than the circle; cut off a 2.5cm (1in) segment, ensuring both ends remain perfectly flat. Stick to the circle with a dab of water; set aside to dry. Complete the top hat by adding a thin ribbon of pink-coloured modelling paste around the base of the hat.
4. To make the rose, cut out four circles from rolled out white modelling paste. Smooth the top edge of each circle with your thumb to form the edges of the petals.
5. Roll one petal closed, with the thin edge at the top, to form the centre of the rose. Roll the three remaining petals around this. Set aside to dry, then place the top hats and roses on top of the push pops.
